Evidentally, Pocket Lint has confirmed that the HTC One 2014 will have two rear-facing cameras. Which we’ve seen in many images already, as well as the leaked press shots @evleaks leaked out this week. The HTC One 2014 is said to feature the same camera sensor found in the HTC One 2013, but with a second 2MP camera sensor above it. The second camera, is said to allow users to blur the background, or even replace the background in any picture they take. It sounds pretty cool, but a 2MP camera can only do so much.
For those that aren’t all that familiar with what “Bokeh” means, it refers to the blur, or the beauty of the blur in the out-of-focus elements of a photo, it’s also something that many portrait photographers strive for. It gives them a greater sense of depth to photos and helps the subject have a lot more “punch”.
This new technology will be captured and controlled with an app that HTC is currently working on. The system will be the first of its kind on a smartphone, but it does look to work in a similar way to how the dual-camera prototype Toshiba announced and demonstrated in late 2013. Toshiba’s dual-camera module enables smartphones to record images and depth data at the same time.
If HTC’s cameras work in a similar way to Toshiba’s, the new HTC One would be able to apply a number of photo manipulations to pictures after they have been taken. This also includes removing backgrounds, replacing backgrounds with something different, and even enhancing the foreground focus effect.
Additionally, Pocket Lint is confirming that the front-facing camera is getting bumped up from 2MP to a 5MP shooter. For better video-calling and selfies. Which means you’ll have a higher megapixel camera on the front of your phone than on the back. Is HTC doing this right?
