Recently, we’ve seen a few leaked photos of HTC’s newest mid-range phone, the Desire 8. The Desire 8 is rumored to be a mid-range phone that is sporting a 5.5-inch screen, as well as a 13- megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front shooter. We have also seen some leaked renders that suggest dual-sim support and the familiar front facing speakers that have become a staple of HTC’s devices. Color options for the Desire 8 are also rumored to include white, yellow, red, cyan and orange. The Desire 8 has also been rumored to have on screen navigation buttons, as opposed to the soft keys on the HTC One.
On top of these recent render and spec leaks, we have just seen a picture that has the rumored Desire 8 in all its glory. Previously, the rumored date for the Desire 8 had been March 18th, according to a screenshot from the original render. However, this new picture from Weibo’s website states that we’ll be seeing the announcement of the Desire 8 on February 24th in Beijing. The teaser also hints at a “super-super” camera. This is probably referring to the 13-megapixel rear camera and the 5-megapixel front camera.
The specs for the Desire 8 don’t seem too bad, at all. However, we have yet to hear about the actual internal components of the device, like the processor and battery size. Also missing are details about screen resolution. I’m sure that as the date gets closer, we’ll be seeing more leaks about this upcoming mid-range device. At the moment, it doesn’t appear that the Desire 8 will be utilizing the new design that the HTC M8 is. If you recall, the HTC M8 has transparent notification and navigation bars with white Kit Kat style icons. The Desire 8 appears to be taking after the HTC One with the darker Blinkfeed theme and the HTC style icons in the notification bar.
It appears that February 24th is going to be the start of an extremely busy week for Android. We’ll have news from Samsung, Motorola and Huawei over at MWC. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for more details on this interesting device.
