The tablet game is a busy one nowadays, with the market being flooded with tablets seemingly left and right. Huawei isn’t exactly well known in this game, having only thrown out a couple of tablets that generally haven’t stuck with the market all that much. It looks like they are going to give it another shot too based on this latest leak for the Huawei Media Pad X1, and we’ve got the device in all its glory this time around too. Looking like an oversized iPhone (or an iPad Mini, really) Huawei is doing what they do best; unashamedly following Apple’s design model and hoping people won’t notice when they pay less than half the price than Apple’s devices sell for. Huawei doesn’t make junk though, even if it is significantly less with similar stylings it packs quite a punch in the spec arena. Pushing an in-house developed Hisilicon quad-core 1.6GHz processor, 2GB of RAM and a 7-inch 1920 x 1200 resolution display, you’ll quickly be drawing similarities between this and the coveted Google Nexus 7. You’ll also find an impressive 13 megapixel camera on the back, and a rather insane 5 megapixel shooter on the front. Huawei is taking the thing we hate most and doing it better than anyone here: taking pictures with tablets.
The tablet is only running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean though, so unfortunately you won’t be getting the latest version of Android on Huawei’s latest device. You’ll also notice in the pictures that there’s an earpiece above the screen, and that’s because this tablet also doubles as a phone with GSM capabilities. Whether or not to consider this a phablet is up to you, but at 183.5 x 103.9 x 7.5 mm this isn’t exactly a device that you can really hold one handed. Weighing in at 239 grams will still feel light though, so if you’ve got hands like LeBron James or Shaquille O’Neal you might be looking at your next device. No word on price or release date yet, but expect to see this one officially be announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this coming week. The conference is only a short six days away, so we’ll know more soon. Is anyone excited over this and other things that Huawei might have to show off at the show?
