When your friends or family come over, what’s probably the first thing they ask for? The password to your WiFi network, right? It’s probably the same when you head over to your friends house as well, especially if you’re not on T-Mobile or Sprint with unlimited data. It’s also often times hard to remember the password to a WiFi network because you’ve got so many other passwords to remember. However, there’s a new Kickstarter project that’s aiming to fix this issue, or at least help you out.
Pylon is here to enhance your in-home hosting experience by automatically logging guests into your network, providing useful information to house guests through a secure & seamless WiFi connection without needing to remember a pesky password. The software in Pylon integrates your guests’ mobile phone with devices such as your Smart TV and Audio system to share music, arrange photo collages, or even “push” a thank you message at the end of the night.
You can simply place a discrete 3×3-inch Pylon on a wall near the entrance of your home or apartment, and set up a pre-linked base station which connects to their modem. So when guests arrive they can simply hold their device up to the Pylon which will automatically connect to the WiFi network without having to type in a password. This is done using NFC on Android devices and by bumping the Pylon on iOS devices. You can control who uses the network, how long they are granted access to use the network and what type of access each guest has on the network, all done from the app on your phone. Which is pretty cool.
This Kickstarter has about 24 days left and is sitting at just $8,135 at the time of writing this. The goal is $60,000. So if you think this is a good idea, you’ll want to go ahead and pledge so that the Pylon can happen!
