We’ve just gotten the T-Mobile LG G Flex in the house, and figured we’d do a nice little unboxing of this big guy. As most of you know the LG G Flex is the first curved device to hit the US. While the Galaxy Nexus did have a curved display, the rest of the device was not. The LG G Flex has a 6-inch POLED 720p display, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of on-board storage, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, along with a massive 3500mAh battery inside. So it’s got great specs, aside from the 720p display. But the best part about the G Flex is the curved display, and the self-healing back. Which we’ll demo the self-healing back in a separate post for everyone to check out.
I’ve only had the LG G Flex for a few hours now, so obviously I can’t do a full review this quickly. But so far I’m really liking this device. Which is surprising because I’m not a big fan of larger devices. But the curve actually makes it feel smaller for some reason. The display is 720p, but it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. I actually thought it would be much worse since it’s stretched out to 6-inches. Although I would still rather have a 1080p display, the 720p isn’t too bad.
As far as the software goes, there’s actually quite a few changes from the G2’s software. Now I can’t compare them side-by-side since I don’t have a G2 here, but I have noticed that the icons in the status bar are no longer that shade of blue they were using forever (which I hated), and are now white like KitKat except for the battery icon. I’ve also noticed that there’s a lot less bloat on this device compared to the G2. But that could be because the G2 I reviewed was on AT&T and the G Flex is on T-Mobile and we know that each carrier has different bloatware for their devices. However it appears LG has a lot less pre-installed software, which is nice to have. While we’re talking about software, LG has also brought just about all the features from the G2 to the G Flex. including my all-time favorite feature, Knock-on. We’ll be breaking down all the features in the full review as well, so you can stay tuned for that.
