The LG G Pro 2 was announced on February 12th with no official release date announced. We still don’t have a solid release, but we thought it might be dropping sometime late this month or maybe in early March. Then we heard from a top LG executive that the G Pro 2 wouldn’t be released in the U.S. until at least April, although the device would be dropping in South Korea before the end of February. Now we’re hearing another report that the G Pro 2 will be released in South Korea on February 21st, which lines up with the earlier reports of the newest LG phablet.
The LG G Pro 2 should launch February 21st and then slowly expand into the rest of the global smartphone market over the following months. Other parts of Asia will see the device released to them in March, with the U.S. and Europe not seeing availability for it until sometime in April. Without an official announcement, it’s not set in stone. We obviously don’t have release dates for any global regions yet. But several reports have come out from LG executives confirming this timeline, so we can pretty much lock it in.
The LG G Pro 2 is the follow up to the Optimus G Pro that was released last April. The Optimus G Pro was one of the best phones of 2013, but it was drowned out by the noise that of the Samsung marketing machine last year. The G Pro 2 wants to be a direct competitor to the Galaxy Note 3 and HTC One Max. It does not have stylus support, but the specs are solid. The G Pro 2 has a 6-inch screen with a 1080p display resolution. It’s powered by 2.26 GHz quad-core chipset and 3 GB of RAM, and will come with either 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage. LG is shipping the phone with Android 4.4 KitKat, and the smartphone will come packed with LG’s suite of software features.
