Right now Motorola is having their own event at Mobile World Congress, which is a bit of a strange one compared to the others. Motorola is having a panel in Barcelona where they are answering all sorts of questions. And one of those is about MotoMaker. Where you can customize your own Moto X. That includes the backplate, engraving, boot-up animation and more. Motorola announced that alongside the Moto X last year. Previously it was only available in the US. Where they had their own factory for putting together these phones, and were able to get them to your doorstep within 4 business days.
A question today during the panel asked about when it would be coming to other regions. Which Motorola’s Rick Osterloh stated that Motorola is bringing their Motomaker customization into Mexico and Western Europe next quarter. So we can look forward to that. Right now Motomaker is an exclusive to the US, and that’s after it was exclusive to AT&T.
MotoMaker was one of my favorite features of the Moto X, besides the Active Display and Touchless Controls. And if they can bring that to the rest of the world, I think they’ll set themselves up for a great 2014. But that also depends on what Lenovo plans to do with them once that sale is final, which should be later this year.
Motorola had a great 2013, well if you compare it to their 2012. But if you compare it to another manufacturer like Samsung, then it definitely didn’t look any better. It’ll be sweet to see if the wood backs also make it’s way into Mexico and Western Europe in a couple of months.
How many of you in Western Europe and Mexico are excited about Moto Maker coming over there? Let us know in the comments down below.
