Motorola Moto G Launches in India, Exclusive to Flipkart For Two Weeks

The latest budget offering from Motorola (erstwhile a Google Company and now sold to Lenovo) – the much acclaimed Motorola Moto G is one of the most awaited phones in the Indian subcontinent. The much touted device was planned to be released in India sometime during the first week of January, however some inevitable delays resulted in the release timelines being stretched to January last week. However a tweet from Motorola finally cleared the air, stating that the budget phone would launch in India on 5th of February.

For Motorola, the Indian market had been a bitter experience in the past, so much so that the manufacturer had to shut shop and had stopped selling devices in India in 2008. Motorola presently does not have any presence in India – be it retail channels or after sales service partners. As a result, the launch of the Moto G in India was being looked upon by industry analysts with a huge dollop of skepticism.

We finally have information that today – the 5th of February – would definitely be the day for the Motorola Moto G’s much anticipated launch in India. The device will be available on online-retail stores, with two weeks exclusivity on Flipkart. As of the writing of this article, no price has been disclosed on Flipkart’s website, however you can enter your email address on the website and the retailer will notify you once the phone is launched. Bundled with the device are also offers which will see you getting an INR 500 off on ebooks, INR 1000 worth of vouchers for clothing (from Flipkart), a 70% discount on back covers for the Moto G as well as a chance to get 100% money back (in terms of store credits) if you purchase the device on launch-day.

Another Indian online-retailer-cum-coupon site – Snapdeal – had listed the Moto G (8GB) variant for pre-orders with shipments starting from third week of February. The demand of the device is evidenced by the fact that the phone was sold out (1000 units) in less than 2 hours of listing on Snapdeal.

Undeniably the budget handset – with a 4.5 inch 720p HD screen, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (upgradable to Android 4.4 Kit Kat), a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, a 2070 mAh non-user removable battery and 1 GB of RAM – would sell like hot-cakes in the price sensitive Indian market. I am also one of the many Indian Android fans waiting for this launch to culminate, and if you’re like me, we would love you hear about your experience of the device. Update: The Moto G is available for INR 12,499 ($200) for the 8 GB and INR 13999 ($224) for the 16 GB variant on FlipKart. Check out the listing on Flipkart.
