It may have seemed that Motorola’s future was uncertain at this point, since the sale from Google to Lenovo provided a look of unstable ground for the company to stand on. Motorola just might be on the upswing though contrary to popular belief. According to Motorola, the company has plans to unveil and launch a successor to the widely popular Moto X, which was their flagship device from last year. Motorola Mobility took to their Twitter account today and posted a tweet stating a response to someone’s question about the “next Moto X”, and they answered back telling them to “keep posted”, with a hint that it would be arriving sometime in late summer.
Motorola had nothing else to say in response to questions about the follow up to the Moto X, and they declined to comment on one specific detail regarding the nature of the Lenovo acquisition, which was what, if any, effect it would have on Motorola’s portfolio going forward. The omission of any information makes us wonder, but with the news about the upcoming second Moto X device, we’re inclined to sway our thoughts to the positive side of the meter for the smartphone manufacturer. In addition to the news about the new Moto X, Motorola apparently also has plans to launch a smartwatch later this year too, and tells us to “look out for it”. Two new devices could spell good things, especially when you take into account that one of them has a decent reputation behind the name. Let’s hope that Motorola can deliver on the new Moto X just like they did with the previous model and improve it in ways that grab attention.
Other details surrounding the Moto X and features that intertwine with the brand revolve around the popular Moto maker, which Motorola says is coming to Europe in Q2 of this year. It’s likely that this isn’t just for the current Moto X device, and will apply to the new Moto X that is said to be coming in summertime. It sounds like it will arrive just in time to be ready for the new device, but we’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled for more information from Moto. If Motorola can deliver on both of these new devices, then they stand a great chance at making a huge comeback.
