We’ve been hearing about the Nokia X, aka Normandy, for quite a while now. We even have specs now, which we believe are accurate because of the source they are coming out of. This morning, @evleaks leaked out some nice specs of the Nokia X. Which confirms that it is definitely a low-end device. Basically a device to get their feet wet. We’re expecting Nokia to announce the Nokia X at Mobile World Congress in just over a week’s time.
According to the specs from Evleaks, we’re looking at a 4-inch WVGA display, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage plus a microSD card slot, Snapdragon dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, 5MP camera on the back, 1500mAh battery and Android apps from the Nokia Store plus third party stores. Also it’ll be available in six colors.
So this kind of confirms that Nokia is forking Android on their latest device, but not completely. Since apps will be from their own store, plus some third-party stores. Which leads me to think that we’ll probably see the Amazon App Store on the Nokia X. As I doubt we’ll see Google Play on this one. Although I would be happy to be wrong in this case, as you definitely need Google services on any type of Android device, especially those that use them quite often, like myself.
So we essentially have the entire spec sheet here. And it’s obviously a low-end device. But is it going to sell? This is the device, or maybe not, that we’ve all been waiting for. We’ve been asking for a Nokia phone running Android. While it’s not a high-end device, it’s still running Android, whether it’s forked or not. We’ll have to reserve judgement until it’s announced at Mobile World Congress next month, though. But what do all of our readers think about this?
