Today OAXIS announced a product launch in answer to consumers’ demands pertaining to their last years’ InkCase i5 which was primarily designed for the iPhone 5 and then later on variants were available for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Note 2. This time OAXIS has outdone them with the launch of the OAXIS InkCase Lite which is designed to fit any and all smartphone devices. The InkCase Lite comes along with a second e-ink display which can pair up with the smartphone using Bluetooth connectivity. Last year, OAXIS had made waves with their first generation InkCase which was limited to just three devices, however now with this alleged versatility in terms of working with all smartphones, the case stands a chance of going mainstream. However details pertaining to the cases’ dimensions are as of yet unavailable.
Another aspect of versatility lies in the form of varied content that can be sent out to the e-ink display using certain proprietary apps. As an example, EpiReader works well for reading ebooks as well as it provides an option of ‘engraving’ the case with your favorite quote. Similarly, InkCase Photo helps to display a photo of your choice on the case’s e-ink display, while the InkCase Sports app turns the e-ink display into a sports timer app. However it must be noted that these apps were developed for the first generation InkCase, and we would expect them to work flawlessly with the InkCase Lite. OAXIS has been wise in opening the InkCase/Lite SDK for app developers. This move would ensure that the possibilities of the InkCase Lite would be explored and exploited well.
Pricing of the InkCase Lite case is as of yet unavailable, however if the pricing of the first generation InkCase is anything to go by, we would not keep our hopes high for a pocket friendly figure – after all the InkCase i5 is priced at $149. For e-book lovers like me, this case is definitely welcome – who would want to bear the inconvenience of carrying an e-book reader on a daily basis.
