It’s no secret that Samsung is looking to announce the Galaxy S5 next week at Mobile World Congress, along with the Galaxy Gear 2 and Galaxy Tab 4 lineup of tablets. We’ve also been seeing two separate spec sheets for the Galaxy S5. Making us a bit confused, but if you remember, the Galaxy S5 was supposed to have two models. One being a “premium” model. It appears that the “Premium” model will not be available anytime soon though. That premium model is said to have a 2560×1440 resolution display, and a 20MP AF Camera on the back, otherwise, it’s the same as the regular Galaxy S5. At least according to leaks and rumors.
Otherwise we’re looking at a 5.25-inch display, Snapdragon 800 clocked at 2.5GHz (Exynos 6 octa-core in non-LTE markets) as well as 3GB of RAM and a 3000mAh battery inside. They will also be running on Android 4.4 – KitKat.
According to OLED-Display.net, they are reporting that a Korean industry insider has stated that there are standard and premium versions of the Galaxy S5 planned. However, the exact timing for launching both models is still unknown. It appears that Samsung has had some issues with manufacturing the higher-resolution 2K display panels, so it is only going to be launching the standard model in March with the premium one “a few months later.” Which is kind of expected, as everyone is looking to get their own 2K display on their flagships this year, and that includes Samsung. Although I’d fully expect there to be only one version of the Galaxy Note 4 this fall, with a 2K display.
I’d be perfectly happy with just a plain old 1080p display on the Galaxy S5. Especially since they are saying it’s going to be a “sharper” 1080p display than what we saw on the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3. How many of you are interested in the Galaxy S5?
