Qualcomm Quietly Slashes $100 off the Price of the Qualcomm Toq

Smartwatches have become an extremely popular form of wearables. Between the Galaxy Gear, the Gear 2 and the Pebble line (just to name a few), people have plenty of options when picking out a smartwatch. The smartwatch competition has been tough, and it is no secret that the cheaper and more feature packed the device is, the better it is to sell. This statement can be made pretty obvious when looking at Pebble and other watches within that price point.

We’re taking a break from the hustle and bustle of the Gear 2 announcement to talk about the Qualcomm Toq. The Qualcomm Toq was made available to consumers on December 2, 2013. Since then, the Toq hasn’t sold as well as it had hoped. The main reason why most people chose other competing smartwatches was the price. The Toq retailed at $349.99, a whole $100 more than the Pebble Steel. The Qualcomm Toq is a good smartwatch, though. It has a beautiful screen, long battery life and really cool accessories that make it so that you don’t have to pull your phone out of your pocket nearly as much. However, we know that the average consumer won’t pay for something if the cost is too high.

The Qualcomm Toq features compatibility with many Android messaging and communication apps. It also allows you to choose icons and layouts that best fit your needs. The Toq comes in black and a limited edition white color. It also tracks your activities and makes it easier to achieve your fitness goals. The Toq is also compatible with two interesting and completely optional earpieces. These earpieces double as headphones and bluetooth devices. They also use the same exact wireless charger that the Toq does, for easy and wireless charging. The Qualcomm Toq is a feature packed smartwatch, but it couldn’t battle on the price frontier.

Today, Qualcomm announced that they cut the price of the Toq down $100 to $249.99. Apparently, the price has been $250 since the 21st, but this is the first official announcement that confirms that price. This new pricing is right in line with the Pebble Steel, another smartwatch in the same category as the Toq. Hopefully this price drop will give the Toq the edge it needs to compete with the the Pebble.
