Samsung did give the Galaxy S5 a nice boost in the battery department. Bumping it up from a 2600mAh battery to a 2800mAh battery in the Galaxy S5. Samsung is touting it can last through 10 hours of web browsing on LTE networks, and 12 hours of video playback on a single charge. Now we’ve been through enough of these announcements to know that these are variable numbers. It will all depend on your settings on your Galaxy S5, and what exactly you’re browsing, and signal strength, etc.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 also has a new ultra power saving mode for the battery, which will keep your smartphone purring along by making the screen black and white and turning off all the non-essential services on your Galaxy S5. Samsung says that with the Ultra Power Saving mode at 10%, in idle mode it can last “up to 24 hours” which is pretty insane for any device. Heck, the DROID Maxx can’t even do that. So that’s quite the feat. But we’ll have to test that out once we get our own review device in hand in April.
It’s great to see the Galaxy S5 have great battery life, because some of the other specs aren’t all that amazing. Mostly all 2013 specs, although it is now waterproof like the Xperia Z1 and Z2, which is nice to see. I would have liked to see a larger battery in the Galaxy S5, as larger is always better, but we’ll have to sit with the 2800mAh battery. As it is probably still removable, it shouldn’t be a big issue, as I’m sure Zero Lemon will be releasing a nice and big extended battery for the Galaxy S5, as they’ve done in the past for the Galaxy S4, S3, and the Galaxy Note 2 and Note 3.
How many of you are excited to get your hands on the Galaxy S5?
