Samsung Galaxy S5 vs iPhone 5S vs Motorla Moto X vs HTC One Vs Nokia Lumia 1020

The new Samsung Galaxy S5’s specifications, for the most part, are known and the device has already been compared to the new Sony Z2 and LG’s G Pro 2 – so it is only fitting that we compare it to some existing devices that current users may be thinking about upgrading from.  As you can see from the list above, we will be looking at the Apple iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S, Motorola Moto X, HTC One, and the Nokia Lumia 1020.  The “STARTING PRICE” is based on signing a two-year contract with a wireless carrier.

We do not know the current pricing on the new Galaxy S5, but we would venture a guess in the $200 – $249 range.  The Galaxy Note 2 and Note 3 auditioned at $300, so we expect the S5 to be less, hopefully, only $199…he laughs!  The iPhone 5S is Apple’s current flagship and still goes for $199, but has a smaller screen and fewer features.

The screen size of the Galaxy S5 is the largest screen at 5.1-inches, the Motorola Moto X and the HTC One come in next at 4.7-inches, the Nokia Lumia 1020 at 4.5-inches, and the two Apples at 4.0-inches each.

Thickness wise, only the newest iPhone 5S came in thinner than the Galaxy S5, 7.6mm vs 8.1mm with the HTC One (9.3mm) and the Nokia Lumia 1020 (10.4mm) being the thickest with the Moto X right in the middle with its curved back.  Weights of the devices vary with the Galaxy S5 at 145g, close to the HTC One at 143g, the Lumia 1020 is the heaviest at 158g and the lightest being the iPhone 5S at 112g.  The Moto X is 130g and the older iPhone 5 is 132g.

Internal storage is pretty much offered as either a 16GB or 32GB models, although the HTC One comes in at 32GB or 64GB, and the Nokia Lumia 1020 comes with only the 32GB option.  One great thing about the Galaxy S5 is that it is the only device with a microSD slot to add an additional 64GB of internal storage.

All of the Android devices, Galaxy S5, Moto X, and HTC One are all using the latest Android 4.4 KitKat.  The Lumia 1020 is using Windows Phone 8 and the two iPhones are running their latest iOS 7.

The cameras jump all over the place – our newest star has a new 16MP main camera and 2MP front facing camera (FFC).  The two iPhones both have an 8MP main camera and 1.2MP FFC, although the iPhone 5S’s camera was improved over the iPhone 5C.  The Moto X has 10MP camera of no notoriety.  The last two devices are a rather hybrid type – the HTC One is only 4MP for the main camera, but uses what they call UltraPixels…and 2.1MP for the FFC.  The Lumia 1020 has a 41MP main camera for outstanding photos with a 1.2MP FFC.
