Here is something that’s pretty cool, as long as it’s implemented correctly. The latest rumor about the Galaxy S5, coming out of SamMobile this morning, is that Samsung is looking to add a ‘side touch’ option for taking pictures. It’s being reported that Samsung is going to have a touch-sensitive area of the chassis to work as a shutter button, there are also some more camera modes being reported coming in the Galaxy S5.
According to SamMobile, the Galaxy S5 will feature a 16MP camera that can do 4K recording at 30 frames per second, as well as 1080p at 60 frames per second. But obviously the more interesting part of this report is the fact that Samsung is using a new technology called “side touch”. Which is a touch sensitive section on the lower right hand side of the case which will work like a capacitive button for the shutter key. However, it sounds like it’ll be limited to just a few camera modes, unfortunately. This new features gives users a more natural way to take pictures, says Sammobile, and it’s also possible that Samsung could choose to use this touch-sensitive area in other apps outside of the camera experience.
Additionally, the camera app has been redesigned. Which it’s pretty likely that it’ll fit in with the overhaul of the OS we’ve been seeing in various leaks already. We are also looking at a few more shooting modes coming into the camera app on the Galaxy S5. That includes “3D Tour Shot” which will apparently allow you to create “interactive tours of your surroundings.” Then there’s “Focus Select” which is similar to Nokia’s refocus camera tool and Sony’s background defocus app. It allows you to change the depth of field on your shots. There’s also “Auto Portrait” which lets you take selfies using the rear camera, there’s also the “Aqua” mode, which is just what it sounds like. Giving you the ability to take pictures underwater. So it sounds like we’ve got some great new camera modes coming in the Galaxy S5. Of course the one I’m most interested in is the Focus Select mode, as I like to blur out the background in my pictures, which you’ve probably noticed from my reviews here.
