Following the open Google Cast SDK and the update to Google Play Services 4.2, we’re starting to see some possibilities of things to come with everyone’s favorite little streaming dongle. Koush has been known to bring us some sweet little apps before, but this tiny little teaser video is definitely taking the cake for upcoming possible Chromecast uses. It’s true that with the open Google Cast SDK we might soon see a flood of Chromecast supported apps hit the play store, but thus far there hasn’t really been anything popping up. More Chromecast apps were thought to be showing up soon after the SDK was first opened by Google earlier this month, but Google ended up stating that they were waiting on the Google Play Services Update to start hitting devices globally. Now that Google Play Services 4.2 has already rolled out, Koush thought it appropriate to throw up a video displaying what might be a new app, or what might be a new feature of his existing Allcast app for use with Chromecast.
The video shows him mirroring his Nexus 5 display onto his big screen TV, which is something that many Chromecast users have been waiting on for a very long time. So far this feature is nowhere to be found and this only serves to show us that whatever Koush is working on displays that the mirror feature to Chromecast is possible. It’s likely that this mirror feature isn’t quite ready for prime time, which would explain not having gotten much word on it from Koush himself. In the video, you see Koush mirroring none other than the once infamous Flappy Bird. The video is fairly short, and only shows him maneuvering through the menu for a few seconds then diving right into the game, and only playing for the same short period of time. It’s not long but it does the job, which is to show users and Chromecast owners out there that mirroring is most likely something that is coming, and at it’s very core, something that is possible to do. The mirroring happens quickly, with little to no lag throughout most of the video, and it gets us all excited just thinking about hooking up a gamepad and mirroring one of many awesome MOGA supported games to the big screen. Perhaps there will more from Koush on this in the coming days or weeks, as we’d like to test this out for ourselves if it’s possible to get our hands on it. http://youtu.be/oIhACF2mReY
