Long-rumored and now finally officially announced, Sony’s Xperia Z2 is a sight for sore eyes and quite a beast of a phone too. Everything about the Xperia Z2, as the name suggests, is an upgrade over the Xperia Z1, even if it might just be incrementally in some cases. The Xperia Z2 comes just 6 months after the Xperia Z1, which launched in September 2013 for most regions around the world. With only 6 months time difference between the Z1 and Z2, it wouldn’t seem like Sony would be able to give us a massive upgrade, and indeed while the Z2 is more powerful than the Z1 it feels more like a tweaking of the design, but that’s not really a bad thing considering how amazing the Z1 really is. Boasting the same waterproof body as the Z1, the Z2 is slightly larger with a 5.2-inch screen but with smaller bezels around the edge of the screen too, making it less cumbersome to hold. Check out all the specs here in our announcement post.
As for availability Sony has revealed that all major UK carriers will be stocking the phone. The Black model of the Xperia Z2 will be available on Vodafone, EE, O2 and Three, which covers everything you could possibly want to get the phone on. What’s more it looks like O2 is going to have the purple color, pictured above, exclusively for its network, so if you’re looking for a truly unique color on your phone and don’t want to use a case, O2 is the carrier you’re going to want to get the Xperia Z2 on. Vodafone is so excited about Sony’s newest flagship model that they’ve put together a little sneak preview video, which you’ll find below. The Xperia Z2 is going to be one incredible phone, taking seemingly every complaint people had about the Xperia Z1 and tweaking it, giving us a slightly larger screen, amazing camera, blazing fast processor and even 4K video recording this time around. Let’s not forget that this will be Sony’s first Android 4.4 KitKat powered phone either, giving users all sorts of new software toys to play around with. Pre-orders start at the end of March for all 4 carriers, and the Xperia Z2 will be available in the UK in April. Right now it looks like only O2 and Vodafone have their pre-order pages up, but Three and EE will likely have that remedied soon.
