On Thursday, Sprint approved the KitKat update for the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4. Making them the first carrier to push out the KitKat update for the Galaxy S4. In fact, the Galaxy S4 on Sprint is getting it before the Galaxy Note 3, which is actually kind of surprising. As most OEMs start with their newest flagship and work backwards. Anyhow. The update is approved and is Android 4.4.2. We should start seeing this update rolling out later on today.
As stated earlier, the build for the Galaxy S4 is VPUFNAE and is Android 4.4.2. According to the details we have from Sprint so far, the release date is February 13, 2014 (note: Sprint’s website says 2013, instead of 2014. We assume that’s a typo). It brings “Android 4.4 (Kit Kat): The Samsung Galaxy S4 device will be updated to support the Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) software.” Sprint also notes that you should no longer receive “Prevention information – An application has been forced to stop for an authorized attempt to access system in your device. It may be safe to delete an application obtained from an unauthorized route. Check now?” alert messages on your device. Additionally, the Galaxy S4 is now compatible with Zact Mobile.
That’s about all the information we have right now. Obviously, we’ll update this post once we learn more from Sprint and/or Samsung. But the update should start rolling out today, or it may be rolling out for customer initiation, which we saw with the HTC One. Basically what that means is you need to manually pull-down the update until Sprint decides to push it out. Which isn’t hard to do. Just hop into Settings, tap on About Device, then System Updates and tap on Check for Updates, and you should be able to pull it down later on today.
