T-Mobile had a pretty big Q4 2013, although it wasn’t as big as we all thought it was. T-Mobile CEO John Legere stood on stage at CES in January showing us how they’ve added 1.65 million new customers in Q4. Which is all good, especially given they are the number 4 carrier, and just a couple quarters ago, they were shedding customers left and right. Now the complete Q4 results for T-Mobile US are finally in, and some numbers look great, others, not so much.
As we know, T-Mobile added 1.65 million customers in Q4. They also brought in about $6.8 billion in revenue during the fourth quarter, which is a 39% increase year-over-year. However, this still did result in a massive $20 million net loss for the quarter. A loss is a loss, but T-Mobile didn’t have the biggest loss of the fourth quarter. Anyone remember Motorola and Sprint’s numbers? As most of you know, it takes money to make money, and T-Mobile is putting their money in all the right places. That includes buying some 700MHz spectrum from Verizon, working on their LTE network and more.
Now for the highlights of 2013, T-Mobile added 4.4 million customers. Postpaid churn was 1.7%, down 70 basis points year-over-year. Adjusted EBITDA of $5.317 billion and adjusted EBITDA margin o 26% on a pro forma combined basis. Rapid progress with the integration of MetroPCS by expanding the brand into 30 additional markets. Currently 3.5 million MetroPCS customers enjoying T-Mobile’s network, they also met or exceeded all company guidance targets for 2013, which is great to hear.
Overall, T-Mobile did have a pretty big year. Yes they lost some money in Q4, but who didn’t? The thing is, T-Mobile is putting together a nice turnaround, which could make them a big contender with AT&T and Verizon in the future, which is what we all want, right?
