While Verizon was first to get KitKat on the Moto X, they aren’t the first to get Android 4.4.2 this go-round. T-Mobile, Sprint and US Cellular have all gotten the update already, but as of today the update has been approved for the Verizon Moto X. The update is build 164.55.2 for those that are interested. The changelog is pretty much the same as the T-Mobile version. Which includes many bug fixes, which results in better battery life and better performance as well. There are also some changes to the calendar and more. There’s also the improved dialer app, but it’s still not the same one as what’s on the Nexus 5, improved synchronization of email attachments, enhanced on-device security, improved connectivity when roaming and more.
Changes specific to Verizon include updating the VZ Tones and VZ Navigator apps. As well as some ISIS Mobile Wallet enhancements. So it doesn’t look like Verizon has added any more bloat to the device, but they have updated what comes on the Moto X for Verizon.
While the OTA has been approved by Verizon, the OTA hasn’t exactly started yet. There was word of a soak test earlier this week. So we may see the update roll out as soon as today or even this weekend. But we don’t know exactly when. It should be a pretty small update too, around 60-70MB in size. The T-Mobile Moto X update was about 64MB in size, for comparison. On other variants, this update has fixed the Android OS battery drain that many of us have seen on the Moto X, and I’m sure it’s been fixed in the Verizon version as well, which you can tell us in the comments down below once you get the update.
To grab the update, just head into Settings, tap on About Phone, then Check for Updates, and see if you can grab the update to Android 4.4.2.
