viaProtect – App Allows You to Take Control of Your Personal Information

Security attacks, malware and hackers are very much the concern of everybody that uses a PC, laptop, notebook, tablet or smartphone. Often we worry about who is trying to grab our information as it travels over the internet or out to the cloud. We often buy software to prevent any breaches in allowing malware or spyware to be download without us knowing about it. That is how most traditional mobile security suites, software or Apps work – they utilize a database of known malicious Apps to screen for viruses and malware that may try to be slipped onto your mobile device. They prevent intrusions from ever being downloaded in the first place, but they pay no mind to Apps that are already on our devices, Apps that pass critical information back and forth to and from the internet or the cloud.

This is where viaProtect comes to the rescue – it monitors all Apps for mobile leaks that might release some of your personal information as it is passed to the internet.  These are Apps that might handle your personal data insecurely by passing unencrypted information or by passing information to unsecure servers overseas. viaProtect estimates that about 75-percent of the Apps we use are “leaky” or insecure when handling our data. viaProtect has helped global companies, government organizations,  and four of the five largest financial institutions in the U.S secure their devices for years. viaProtect’s CEO and Co-founder Andrew Hoog explains:

“We believe that everyone is entitled to state-of-the-art protection from threats like identity theft and loss of privacy.  viaProtect utilizes the same technology that our enterprise customers rely on to protect mission-critical data. It’s a more sophisticated approach for a world that is becoming more mobile by the day and one that an informed consumer will want.  We’re very proud to make it available.”

According viaProtect it: “gathers mobile forensic, system, network, security and sensor data from devices, then utilizes statistical analysis and risk indicators to detect suspicious events or behavior. This means that an app can be monitored in real-time to predict potential risks or problems- rather than just checking for known malicious apps.  viaProtect uses real-time analytics to detect behavior that is suspicious or potentially risky.”

The App will provide the user with a simple score that will let you know how safe your data is, exactly where that data is being sent, inform you of risky device modifications, such as rooting, and be informed about leaky and insecure Apps. In addition, this browser-based dashboard allows multiple devices to be monitored from one account, which makes it perfect for the entire family to use.

The world may be going mad, but we know for sure it is definitely going mobile – we must protect our personal data from hackers and malware, but not simply from downloading a virus, but more importantly, we need to make sure that the Apps on our mobile devices do not “leak” out secure information as they handle that data. viaProtect can help you in this department with their new App that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.  The screenshots below show you an example of what websites or companies that you Apps maybe “talking” too:
