Worldwide Android News 02/09/14 – Moto G in India, G Pad 8.3, Rose Gold Galaxy Note 3 and More!

EE and Three UK Join Together to Improve 4G LTE

While EE might be the UK’s largest operator – 4G or otherwise – Three is perhaps the smallest. It seems that Three UK’s deal with T-Mobile to share networks has endured throughout the EE partnership of Orange and T-Mobile and now, they’re going to be joining forces once more. Three UK will be offering up £500 Million in help network improvements on EE’s network and will be able to share EE’s fairly comprehensive 4G network. Unlike EE though, Three will be offering LTE as a standard service and offering a free upgrade to 4G handsets to their customers. The deal won’t make any affect to Three’s network for some time, but hopefully it should mean better – and more affordable – 4G for a large amount of the country.

Mercury mTAB Air Launched in India with 7.85-inch Display and Voice Calling

In India, devices that can do more than one thing are pretty common these days and with the mTAB Air, Mercury is launching yet another device. Taking after the iPad Mini, the 7.85-inch display has a resolution of 1024 x 768 and there’s a dual-core MediaTek CPU inside with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. Running Android 4.2 and featuring just a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera, it’s not the most impressive of devices. However, at just RS 10,999 with voice calling features, this is perhaps a good deal for a lot of people.

LG G Pad 8.3 Just £199.99 From Expansys in the UK

LG’s latest foray into the tablet market is just £200 in the UK now, so long as you buy it from Expansys. That brings it closer to the Nexus 7’s pricing in England and, with an 8.3-inch display, Snapdragon 600, 1920 x 1200 resolution and a quality build, it might be the tablet you were looking for. We reviewed the G Pad and found it to be an excellent piece of hardware, LG’s software is still a little too much, but there are some great custom ROMs out there for this tablet.

Motorola Moto G Gets Priced in India

The Moto G has been headed to India for a long time and now, it’s finally been priced. The great value-for-money Moto G is now available for RS 12,499 for 8GB and RS 13,999 for 16GB. The Moto G features the latest version of Android, KitKat and comes with a 4.3-inch 720p display, a quad-core Snapdragon 400, 1GB of RAM and a 5-megapixel camera. Overall though, Motorola has focused on the build quality and software features of this little budget handset.

Galaxy Note 3 Now Available in Rose Gold and Red in the UK

While the Rose Gold version of the Galaxy Note 3 has been available in the US for a little while now, it’s only just making its way across the pond. Both the Rose Gold and Red versions of the Galaxy Note 3 are now available in the UK from Carphone Warehouse. As with most Samsung products though, these won’t be cheap, so be prepared to pay up.

Oppo Neo Now Available in India for RS 11,990

Oppo have been selling some fairly decent budget-minded options for a while now, and the Oppo Neo is no exception. Selling for RS 11,990 the Neo might not be the best deal out there. With its 4.5-inch 854 x 480 display, a dual-core CPU, just 512MB of RAM and Android 4.2, it’s not got a huge amount going for it. However, if you’re not looking for something too large or on the expensive side, Oppo do make quality products.

Google Brings Local Payments to More Territories

Google haven’t been the best at bringing local app payments to countries around the world, but they’re making progress with this most recent update. In Asia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia can now charge for their work in the Play Store and other countries can now set payments in their local currency.

Moto G Now Just £100 on Vodafone

Motorola’s affordable handset has been something of a success in the UK, but now it’s about to get a lot more affordable. The Moto G is now available from Vodafone for just £100 on their “Within Reach” program. You have to pay up £10 of credit to get that £100 price, but when you factor in the average price of £120 in the country, you do still save some money. With Android 4.4 available for the handset and a pretty decent display and performance, this could be everything you – or someone you know – needs in a smartphone.
