Worldwide Android News 02/16/14 – Xiaomi Redmi, Galaxy Trios, HP Slate VoiceTabs and More!

Samsung Launch Galaxy Trios in Brazil; Support Three SIM Cards

For our readers in Latin America, specifically those in Brazil, there’s no one more option to get your hands on a Tri-SIM handset. The Galaxy Trios is launching in Brazil through a number of online retailers, running for around $165 US. That’s not a great price when you start to take a look at the spec sheet on this guy. There’s a 3.14-inch 320 x 240 display, 512MB of RAM, a single-core Snapdragon S1 (the guy that debuted in the Nexus One) and Android 4.1.2. Still, if you just have to have a Tri-SIM device, this is at least another option.

Micromax Funbook P280 Launches for Just RS 4,650

Taking a look at the specs of this guy, nobody is going to be impressed, but then again it only costs less than RS 5,000. A 7-inch 800 x 480 display is joined with Android 4.2, a single-core 1 Ghz CPU and 512MB of RAM. Of course, this isn’t designed for those looking for something too great, but at just RS 4,650 it’s a great first-time tablet.

HP Slate 6 VoiceTab and Slate 7 VoiceTabs Launch in India

When HP announced a pair of new large-screened devices for India there was some excitement to be had, after all it marked the return of HP to the smartphone market. Of course, this isn’t what we were all expecting, but it’s good to see them back at all, frankly. The Slate 6 VoiceTab is a large device with a 6-inch 720p display and a quad-core Marvell CPU, 1GB of RAM Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The Slate 7 VoiceTab is practically the same device on the inside but has a 7-inch display and is definitely more of a tablet like device. Both devices are now available in India for RS 22,990 for the Slate 6 VoiceTab and RS 16,990 for the Slate 7 VoiceTab. It’s strange to us that the Slate 7 VoiceTab is so much cheaper, but then again smartphones are often more expensive these days than tablets.

Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 Available in Black and Pink in India

Samsung have released new color options for the Galaxy Grand 2 in India. The 5.25-inch HD device is now available in either black or pink, sporting the same faux-leather look as the Galaxy Note 3, too. With 1.5 GB of RAM and a decent enough display, this is a nice device from Samsung and we’re sure the new color options will appeal to some. Especially the black version which certainly looks professional to us.

Asus Transformer Pad TF502T Launches in Taiwan; Low-End Transformer Option

ASUS has long been known for delivering great tablet experiences, but they’ve often come with sizable price tags as well. Launching in Taiwan however is the TF502, which is launching for an easy-to-swallow price tag of roughly $340 US. It’s got the Tegra 3 CPU inside, a 1366 x 768 10.1-inch display and the keyboard dock. So, overall for that price it seems a very good deal and joins the rest of the Transformer pads on sale throughout Asia.

Xiaomi To Launch Redmi in Singapore Later This Month

Xiaomi is launching their first device outside of China later this month, with the Redmi heading to Singapore. For $169 Singapore it’s a decent enough deal and marks the first release for Xiaomi outside of their home market. The Redmi is basically the same as the company’s Red Rice device that launched to much fanfare towards the end of last month. It’s a big step for Xiaomi and we’re sure that Hugo Barra from Google had something to do with this, after all he was charged with their international development.

Xiaomi Launch Follow-Up to the Hongmi, the Hongmi 1s

With a Snapdragon 400 clocked at 1.6 Ghz with 1GB of RAM, the 4.7-inch HD Hongmi 1S is nothing more than an improvement on the already decent mid-ranger that the company announced a few months ago. 8GB of storage is included, but there’s also a microSD card slot on onboard as well as an 8MP rear-facing camera, too.
