ZTE to Announce 6-inch Grand Memo II at MWC 2014; Bring a New Version of Software With Them

With Mobile World Congress just over the horizon, we’re starting to hear more about the products that industry giants will be announcing and showing off. We’ve already heard from Huawei – thanks to Siri lending a hand – and now, ZTE is announcing just what they’re going to be showing off next week at MWC. As we expected, ZTE has a couple of new devices to show off, both of them very different from each other. As well as that, the Chinese company is going to be showing some of their previous devices in order to give folks an idea of just what ZTE is all about. The main attraction of the show for ZTE however, will be their new Grand Memo II LTE, sporting a 6-inch display.

Last year, ZTE announced the original Grand Memo at Mobile World Congress amid confusion concerning its processor. Demo units on the floor were running a Snapdragon S4 Pro but ZTE were promising a Snapdragon 800 at launch, along with other models and varying systems on chip depending on region. This year, we don’t know much about the Grand Memo II, but we’re assuming that ZTE will want to up the resolution from 720p to 1080p and with LTE onboard this time around, we’re predicting another Snapdragon chip. Perhaps this year, ZTE can announce with a Snapdragon 800 and mean it.

Elsewhere, ZTE is promising to announce a new version of their software atop Android, dubbed MiFavor 2.3, which we’re sure is going to be full of improvements and such. However, not much is learnt from the press release. A Firefox OS phone, the Open C, is also going to be announced as well. Which will be the first Firefox OS 1.3 device on the market. While Firefox OS is still an oddity in the mobile world, carriers throughout Europe are turning to the software to help sell lower-end devices. ZTE has always had a presence at Mobile World Congress and this year will be no different, we’ll have all of the news for you as soon as we have it next week.
