Paranoid Android has been one of the bigger custom ROMs available for Android devices for some time now, and for good reason. Where CyanogenMod strives to create an “Android distribution” akin to Linux distributions like Ubuntu, Paranoid Android and AOKP were more than happy to add some genuinely new and useful features. One such feature from Paranoid Android is pie, a slide-out menu that appears from any edge on the display to let you quickly and easily interact with your phone. In Android 4.4 KitKat, Google made a lot more changes than we think, and the often forgotten about immersive mode was one of them. The Paranoid Android team has been wondering just how to incorporate these changes into PA, and in their latest Google+ post they’ve announced some changes.
Pie now fits in better with KitKat and works together in conjunction with immersive mode to create an even better user experience. The code has clearly undergone a cleanup and considerable work, as preferences can now be changed on the fly – you don’t need to go through menu after menu to make your changes, simply change what you want, when you want. All of this comes with some changes to how Paranoid Android’s pie fits in with KitKat visually. Pie now feels more like part of Android 4.4 and fits in with Google’s own design guidelines for the OS and thanks to immersive mode, there’s always access to your status bar, which is a nice touch.
If you’re unfamiliar with Paranoid Android, but have tried other Custom ROMs on your device, why not give it a go? With Android 4.4, Google refined the Halo theme that was introduced in Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and we’re a big fan of it here at Android Headlines, with these changes to Paranoid Android you can enjoy a great custom ROM experience, without straying too far away from what Google intended.
