The Galaxy S5 seems to be the center of most mobile news, and this is exactly what Samsung would want. With all the talk about the supposed pricing and theinternals of the device, it is natural for us to keep this topic going strong. Now, we get to look at the twin of the S5 that Samsung Mobile revealed to us at MWC… the SM-G900H. This version of the S5 is an octa-core variant running on Samsung’s own Exynos 5422 chip that runs at 2.1GHz. Now, late last month we heard from AnTuTu that there would be two versions of the then up-and-coming Galaxy S5, and now we seem to know it for a fact. The AnTuTu benchmark showed us an Exynos eight-core CPU with clocks of 1.5 GHz, ARM Mali-T628 GPU, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and a full-HD screen. The only difference with the benchmark we are seeing today has to do with the processor. The GHz rate for the AnTuTu test, given that we know what chip the phone has now, was running using only four of the Cortex A7 cores that run at that frequency. The other four cores, the Cortex A15, run at 2.1GHz. What we can conclude from this is that either the first four cores were active during the AnTuTu test, or that Samsung was purposefully testing to see how the processor would run at lower frequencies.
However, the biggest shock and the most interesting piece of information we got from this benchmark is that the screen is going be at 1,920 x 1,080 at 5.2 inches, a solid tenth of an inch bigger than the model we saw at MWC. While this doesn’t seem like much, it shows us that Samsung is again throwing another variant of a Galaxy line into the mix-up of phones on the market. This puts the phone in an interesting middle ground. We have heard of rumors of a higher-end Galaxy S5 being released later this year, featuring a 5.2″ screen with a quad-HD resolution, but this is somewhere in the middle ground.
