Samsung has quickly become a household name over the last 4 years and has rocketed to the top of the Android smartphone game. While the company isn’t doing anywhere near as well in tablet, they’re still towards the top when it comes to Android tablets. Their Galaxy Tab range has changed over a number of years and now, it looks like the Galaxy Tab 4 line is heading to market later this year. Two of the new devices have seemingly appeared at the FCC, with some interesting factoids to show us all.
The WiFi versions of these tablets have already passed through the FCC, and now it’s time for the LTE versions to make their appearance. With the Galaxy Tab Pro line hitting shelves, we were all wondering whether or not the Galaxy Tab 4 line would be shipping with more frugal performance stats, and well, things are a little disappointing. Both the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 feature a quad-core Snapdragon 400 at 1.2 Ghz as well as 1280 x 800 screen resolutions. 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of storage are available on both of these tablets, with a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera. Android 4.4.2 is running the show and we wouldn’t be surprised if the latest version of TouchWiz is coming along for the ride.
What’s surprising here, is not that the new Galaxy Tab line is going to be more of a budget affair, the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab Pro line have seen that, but more just how budget they really are. The Snapdragon 400 is not a bad chip, but to put things into perspective it’s the same one at the heart of the Moto G. Besides that, we have LG’s G Pad 8.3 coming with 2GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 600 which is now available on Verizon. Pricing will be key for Samsung, while these will be aimed at average consumers, we doubt even they will be willing to pay Sammy’s usual premium. The Galaxy Tab 4 line has yet to hit shelves, or even be announced, but the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 recently got a price cut on Amazon to become one of the cheaper 10-inchers out there.
