Nvidia may not have had the most power conscious processors for mobile devices in the past, and it’s likely that their newest processor that is currently in the works will be a power hungry beast as well. There’s always hope that they’ll be able to pull off a miraculous feat of delivering a chipset that is a vast improvement on the power consumption of previous offerings, and we can’t argue that Nvidia’s mobile processors provide an unparalleled and powerful processing experience, especially when it comes to graphics as shown by the demo at CES for their upcoming Tegra K1 processor. Nvidia’s Tegra K1 will be one of many different processors that are slated to hit the market in the future that use the 64-bit architecture,(the Tegra K1 will also come in a 32-bit architecture) but the question still remains as to when we’ll actually see a device that houses one of these processors.
If you’re a tech enthusiast and you have a soft spot for power and performance, you have probably been paying close attention to what Nvidia is working on. We have to wonder like many what the first device powered by the Nvidia Tegra K1 will be, and some of us were undoubtedly hoping it would be an upcoming Tablet offered by the company or a high-end smartphone. It may not end up being either of those though, as rumors seem to suggest that a new 50-inch Smart TV with 4K resolution from Lenovo could be the very first Tegra K1 powered device to hit the market. Although I was personally hoping for the arrival of a new Nvidia Tablet powered by the Tegra K1, a TV is certainly an appropriate device to house this sort of processor.
So far there have been no direct details stating the new Smart TV from Lenovo would house the Nvidia Tegra K1, but the companies VP did mention that the TV would be powered by the world’s fastest 200+core CPU and GPU setup. At current and as far as we’re aware, the Nvidia Tegra K1 is the only processor that has just about the same amount of cores(192) that are said to support the TV. The TV is said to be launching soon, (just around the corner to be precise) so we might get to see a Tegra K1 powered device sooner than we thought. Naturally since we don’t really know much about the TV itself in terms of specs, there’s also no information on pricing. You can bet it won’t be cheap though if it’s boasting an Nvidia Tegra K1 processor with a 4K screen that large and smart capabilities.
