Continuing their campaign to broaden the capabilities of what you can do with Google Search, Google is opening our eyes to yet another new feature that the search app on Android is now capable of. Just recently they told us about some new features that rolled out in the latest update that would allow us to open up the camera or open up the video recorder just by using the OK Google hotword command, and the feature to have Google Search listen for music to analyze the song and give you the details on the song name and artist, just in case you forgot.
Today’s new feature focuses on the ability to Play music instead of listen for it, which might actually come in handy as well. The idea isn’t necessarily to make it easier to access your music hands free, as this takes a more fun and playful approach. Opening up Google Search or Google Now and tapping the mic button, then proceeding to say OK Google, play some music, will open up a cool little radio station utilizing Google Play Music called I’m Feeling Lucky Radio, that is based off of whatever recent music you have listened to. According to Google, all you need is to have Google Play Music installed on your device and have the latest Google search app update, and then you can try this feature out. They make no mention of requiring Play Music All Access for this to work, so as long as you have the app you should be good to go.
Whether you’re just tired of what you have set up in your play list or you simply just want someone else to play DJ for a while, this new feature should be able to do the trick for you. Most people should have gotten the Google Search app update by now so if you’re feeling lucky, open up search and give this a try. Remember the radio station is based off of recent music that you’ve listened to, so we wouldn’t expect all kinds of new stuff you’ve never heard before. You’ll undoubtedly end up hearing some new songs or artists though.
