Less than an hour ago, Google announced they have posted the wearables SDK, and are calling it “Android Wear”. They also announced they were partnering with a ton of manufacturers out there. One of them was LG, among many others. LG has just announced that it will be one of the first manufacturers making an Andorid Wear.
According to LG, the LG G Watch will be compatible with most Android smartphones and will present relevant information to users just when they need it or whenever they say “OK Google” to ask questions or get stuff done. Sounds a lot like the Touchless Control on the Moto X and other Motorola smartphones from 2013. “The opportunity to work with Google on LG G Watch was the perfect chance for LG to really pull out al the stops in both design and engineering,” stated Dr. Jong-seok Park, who is President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications. “With the LG G Watch, LG is continuing the milestones we’ve set in wearables following the foot-steps of the worlds first 3G Touch Watch phone in 2009 and the Prada Link in 2008. We’re confident that a well-designed device has the potential to take the smart wearable market by storm.”
LG has been working closely with Google from the initial stages of development to ensure that the LG G Watch worked perfectly with Android Wear. This would be LG’s fourth device created with Google, after the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and the G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition. LG is aiming to have the LG G Watch available for consumers in the second quarter of 2014 (that’s April-June 2014). So far there’s no hardware specs, or pricing available. As soon as we learn more, we’ll be sure to let everyone know.
