Rumors and more rumors, this time about the upcoming LG G3. We have already heard that the next LG flagship would be announced in May, and now another insider is saying that the device will be released in June. We’re still 3-4 months away from those dates, so a couple of things could be happening here. The release date may in flux. There could also be two dates in play, one for the G3 announcement and a second actual release date. The start of summer is prime time to release new devices, though.
The LG G3 is rumored to be a 5.5-inch device with an edge-to-edge display, much like the LG G2. It’ll be even bigger than the G2, though. It will have a 1440 x 2560 Quad HD display, 534 ppi screen density, and come with either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage. It’s rumored to be shipping with LGs own ARM-based chipset, which would show LG moving away from the Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs they’ve used in previous phones. Initial rumors point to 2GB of RAM and a whopping 4,000 mAh non-removable battery. It should also have an upgraded 16-megapixel camera with OIS and all of LGs photo software built-in. All of this is still just in the rumor phase, but the G3 is shaping up to be a massive, high-end device. LG isn’t holding anything back.
LG is changing their release schedule a bit this year, too. Last year the Optimus G Pro was announced in February and released in April. The G2 was released in the fall. This year, the G Pro 2 was just announced and will probably be released around the same time as last year’s Optimus G Pro, but the G3 has been pushed up by several months. Instead of being released for the holidays, the South Korean company appears to be getting a jump on things and releasing the phone for the beginning of summer. The last few LG flagships have been great devices, so I don’t mind at all if they bring us the next one early. It does leave questions about what they will release in the fall, if anything. We’ll know more soon. We have get through HTCs announcement on March 25th first.
