LG is almost finished rolling out KitKat for the LG G2, and now it’s beginning it’s rollout for the LG Optimus G Pro. The Optimus G Pro was LG’s first stab at the Phablet market. They released it about a year ago, and it was widely available outside of the US, but only on AT&T here in the US. When I reviewed the Optimus G Pro last year, it quickly became one of my favorite phablets, however at that time the only other phablet I had used was the Galaxy Note 2.
The Optimus G Pro is now receiving Android 4.4 KitKat if you’re in Korea – LG’s homeland. The update appears to be hitting two of the three Korean carriers. Which would be SKT, and LG U+. KTF is due to get the update in the end of March, so there’s that. The update is available Over-The-Air, and will bring the Optimus G Pro up to the latest version of Android, which is Android 4.4.2. Some of the changes in the update include speeding up system performance, and the transfer speeds over MTP, also improving the device’s messaging capabilities with the new Hangouts app, changing the color scheme – so now it’s white icons in the status bar instead of blue – and improving RAM management.
It’s a pretty solid update for the LG Optimus G Pro, and now that the update is rolling out in Korea, we should begin to see it rolling out elsewhere in the world fairly soon. LG and Samsung like to push updates out in Korea first as a sort of testing ground, before pushing the update out to other regions. LG has done this with the LG G2’s KitKat update as well.
