News Service – Al Jazeera America – Launches New Android App

Al Jazeera America (AJAM) is an American based cable and satellite news, television channel launched on August 20, 2013.  It competes directly with CNN, HLN, MSNBC, and Fox News Channel and, according to their website, provides unbiased, fact-based, in-depth stories of U.S. and international news, including sports, business, lifestyle and investigative journalism. The new U.S. cable news network is available in around 50 million U.S. households, on Time Warner Cable, Comcast, DirecTV, Dish Network and Verizon FiOS and today they unveiled a new Mobile App for iOS and Android devices.

The App is designed to be clutter free and provides picture navigation that is visually appealing and very intuitive for the new users.  The App provides users with their broadcast schedule, Channel Finder, and provides integration with email, Twitter and Facebook so that the user can share stories on their social networks.  It also provides users the ability to request that Al Jazeera America Television channel be included in their local providers channel lineup. Angela Morgenstern, Executive Vice President, Product and Innovation stated:

The Al Jazeera America Mobile App is an easy and convenient way to get the most important news of the day and access great AJAM journalism anywhere, at any time.  With Audio mode readers become listeners and go hands-free from headlines to the full article.

Al Jazeera American App users will find a collection of the most up-to-date and important stories from the day.  The content is sectioned off into Top Stories, Original Features, and Opinion Content from award-winning writers like David Cay Johnston and Jill Lawrence.  There are full articles with visually rich pictures and in an easy-to-read format.  They have a Behind the Story feature helps readers to understand the importance of the news, and Breaking News will send notifications to your device to keep you better informed throughout the day.  Their Mobile App offers the Audio Mode option for you to use, say during commutes, to listen to the news as it is read aloud in a playlist format.

Check out the App on Google Play and give it a try (the link is listed below) – it is totally free, but as in all streaming applications, listening could use your mobile data.  The App was just released today and we recommend for our news interested readers that they give it a try and please let us know on our Google+ Page what you think of the new Al Jazeera American App.
