It’s no secret that phones are getting thinner and thinner. As technology gets more advanced, manufacturers find different ways to jam necessary components into a thinner area. Currently, the thinnest smartphone that we’ve seen today is the Gionee Elife S5.5. This device is an octa-core with 2GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel camera. This device also contains a 2300 mAh battery. How thin is this phone, you might ask? The Gionee Elife measures just 5.5mm thin. That’s packing quite a bit into an already thin area.
With that being said, it’s always nice to see just how thin some people would prefer their phones. What I’m referring to is Sirdow Prismatiker’s amazingly thin concept for the Nexus 6. It looks like Prismatiker thinks that smartphones haven’t hit the limit to how thin they can be. Prismatiker has designed a concept phone that pushes the limits and looks pretty awesome at the same time. The main focus on this particular concept is obviously the thinness of the phone.
The concept shows us some sharp edges on the bottom and a curved top. It also shows a decent sized screen and dual camera flashes right below the camera. Prismatiker also shows us a picture of three of the Nexus 6 concepts stacked on top of each other. The thickness of the three devices looks like it might measure up to how thick some of today’s flagships are. When looking at this concept in terms of design, it’s extremely gorgeous to look at. However, you still have to worry about where you’re actually going to put the internal components of the device. This concept leaves me wondering just how thin we can make our devices, and at what point we hit the current technology limit. If we make our phones thinner, then we need to make everything that goes in the phone thinner as well. That could jeopardize battery life, processors and even cameras.
This concept is beautiful, but still a ways off for our current technology. We’ll just have to wait to see how thin we can make our phones. We have to give technology some time to catch up to our dreams and wishes. I leave you with one question: for a phone, how thin is too thin?
