The world of 64-bit CPUs is still relatively new, and other than the iPhone 5s there aren’t any mobile device manufacturers that have implemented it into their hardware. We’re certainly moving towards seeing smartphones and tablets that will house processors that run on the 64-bit architecture, but were not quite there yet. Qualcomm, Samsung, and others are in the process of building and developing those types of chips, but Nvidia, the longtime chip and GPU manufacturer most notably associated with gaming performance, is well on their way to developing their 64-bit CPU, the Tegra k1 chip with Dual-Core Denver. As seen at the demo where Nvidia unveiled the new CPU, we got to experience some of the power that Nvidia was packing behind this new processor, and it’s awesome to say the least. As of today though, we actually get to see just how well that chip performs in the benchmarks, as some results have recently leaked and popped up on the AnTuTu website.
The first image shows an unnamed device that is simply referred to as Generic T132f, but more importantly we see details that show a device running on Android 4.4.2 kit kat, that also houses a 2MP front facing camera and a 13MP rear shooter, along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. There’s no telling what this particular device could be, but the specs certainly sound amazing. Moving on to the last image of three, we get a look at how well the Tegra K1 64-bit CPU made by Nividia stacks up against other processors, and this is where things get interesting for those who are intrigued by devices with power and performance. Both the 1st and 2nd CPUs on the benchmark image are from Nvidia, and are the Tegra K1 4 core processor, and the Tegra K1 2 core processor. The 4 core chip comes in ranked on the benchmark with a score of 43,851, and the 2 core Tegra K1 comes in with a score of 43,617, so it’s not too far behind the 4 core CPU. The closest processor to those two is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 with a score 37,780, which is quite a bit of difference in comparison. The 64-bit denver CPU also got tested up against the Tegra Note tablet, as well as the 32-bit Tegra K1 chip that we saw demoed off at CES. With no surprise, the 64-bit denver CPU surpassed on almost all accounts as you can see from the image. Some other interesting notes are the fact that 64-bit denver chip is expected to be clocked at 3GHz as opposed to the initial 2.5GHz that it was thought to end up at before hand. The 64-bit denver chip also seems to have a very high score in the test on RAM. So that means games that require high performance and multitasking should be a cinch with this CPU.
