Samsung has made it quite clear that they want to dominate the tablet segment of the market like they do with their smartphones…in other words, step aside Apple with your iPad. So it was no surprise when Samsung announced its new tablet line, that it was all-encompassing with a lower priced Galaxy Tab 4 (to replace their Tab 3 series), then a middle priced series called the Galaxy TabPRO – each tablet series will carry a 7, 8, and 10.1-inch size. If those are too small for you, Samsung has also released a high-priced Galaxy NotePRO 12.2-inch tablet as well. There is a size and a price range to satisfy just about everybody when it comes to their tablet selection.
Available in the U.S. for a while, the Galaxy NotePRO 12.2 has officially been released in Canada for $769.99. With this size and price it is aimed directly at the professional market, where Samsung would love to make some inroads against the iPad. Because it is from the ‘Note’ series, it offers an S-Pen as well as multi-window functionality – you can have four programs running at once and because of the large display, all four are very usable.
The 12.2-inch display is 2560 x 1600 resolution (247ppi), powered by the eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There is a 8PM camera for great videos or pictures and a 2MP FFC for those video chats so often needed in a business environment. It also comes with USB 3.0 for quick data transfer and the newest Bluetooth 4.0 LE. Personalized Magazine UX allows you customize your experience by organizing your favorite content in an easy-to-use dashboard with automatic feed or news updates. Cisco WebEx Meetings comes pre-installed, as does Samsung e-Meeting, and an innovative virtual keyboard with haptic feedback provides a realistic typing experience. Of course it is running the latest Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box. Samsung has also made arrangements for some free content from third-party suppliers – hoping to whet your appetite so you will sign up on a permanent basis. Alphabetically, you get to sample – Bitcasa, Bloomberg Businessweek+, Blurbo, Cisco WebEX Meetings, Dropbox, Easilydo Pro for Tablet, Evernote, Hancom Office for Android, LinkedIn, LIVESPORT.TV, NY Times, Oxford Advanced Learner’s A-Z, and Sketchbook Pro.
