After plenty of rumors this weekend, Samsung has finally made the Chromebook 2 series official. The update Chromebooks will be available in 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch configurations. The specs are pretty similar across the board, but we’ll check out each version individually.
The 11.6-inch version has a 1366×768 resolution display, Exynos 5 Octa processor which is clocked at 1.9GHz, 4GB of RAM, 16GB SSD, a microSD card slot and a 720p HD webcam. While the 13.3-inch version has a 1920×1080 resolution display, Exynos 5 Octa 2.1GHz processor, 4GB of RAM, 16GB SSD, microSD card slot, and a 720p HD webcam. Both models also have a USB 3.0 and a USB 2.0 port, as well as a headphone and microphone port on the side.
The 11.6-inch version will be available in Jet Black and Classic White, while the 13.3-inch version will be available in Luminous Titan Gray. Also, as we saw over the weekend, these will have the faux leather back that we saw on the Galaxy Note 3 last fall. As far as the dimensions go, the 11.6-inch version is 11.40 x 8.06 x 0.66-inches and 2.43 pounds. The 13.3-inch model is 12.272 x 8.80 x 0.65-inches and weighs about 3.09 pounds.
Samsung has also pre-loaded some software including Air Droid Premium, Wunderlist Pro and some others. These models are expected to hit retailers in April and will be priced at $319 for the 11.6-inch version and $399 for the 13.3-inch version.
Some pretty good specs on these Samsung Chromebook 2’s. I’ve got my eye on the 13.3-inch version, as I think that’s the perfect size for a “laptop”, and I’m also going to enjoy that full HD display Samsung has thrown in. However, I do hope that it will perform better than the original ARM-based Chromebook that was released in 2012. As I do own that one, and it’s not my favorite, but then again maybe I’m trying to use my Chromebook for too much stuff? Anyways. These will be on sale next month. Who’s planning on picking one up?
