Samsung’s SM-T700 tablet, has been rumored a bit lately. And today its in the rumor mill once again. This time it’s because it may be sporting a 2560×1600 resolution AMOLED display. Now many of you may be wondering why that’s a big deal. Well it’s a big deal because currently Samsung always uses an LCD display on their tablets, because AMOLED panels are quite a bit more expensive. In fact, they haven’t used an AMOLED display on a tablet since the original Galaxy Tab. This display would give you a 359 ppi, which is about the same as what we have on the Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 from Samsung, which was announced back at CES in January.
There is also the SM-T805 which will have an AMOLED display, so it appears that we are going to have a couple of AMOLED display tablets coming soon from Samsung. Which for those that love AMOLED displays, it’s a great thing.
Some of the other specs for the SM-T700 include it running an Exynos 5 Octa processor. Which uses the big.LITTLE architecture from ARM. We’ve seen this processor in a few other tablets and smartphones already. In fact, the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition has it, as well as the international Galaxy S4. It features two quad-core processors. One quad-core processor consists of ARM Cortex A-15 cores clocked at 1.9GHz, while the second quad-core processor has ARM Cortex A-7 cores clocked at 1.3GHz. It’s setup this way so that on lighter tasks like checking email and Google+, you’re using a slower processor, thus using less power. But when you want to play a game, it’ll switch over to the faster, more powerful processor.
We’re also looking at 2GB of RAM on the SM-T700, 16GB of internal storage, 7MP camera on the back with a 2MP front-facing camera. Which is a bit strange to see a 7-megapixel camera. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 7-megapixel camera on a smartphone. Hopefully we’ll learn more about this 8.4-inch tablet pretty soon.
