Many of us are still waiting on a new Samsung Chromebook. It’s been over a year since their last Chromebook was launched, which had a few issues, but it was also the first ARM-based Chromebook. We saw leaks over the weekend that the new Samsung Chromebook is going to have a faux-leather back. Now we’re seeing the specs leak out too. It appears there will be at least two versions.
The 11.6-inch version will have a 1366×768 resolution display, Exynos 5 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 16GB SSD. It’s also said that the Exynos 5 chip should provide around 8.5 hours of battery life, basically it’s equivalent to the Haswell chip in the Acer C720 series of Chromebooks. Now the 13.3-inch version will have the same specs, but a 1920×1080 resolution display, which is a definite improvement. The 11.6-inch version will be priced at $319, with the 13.3-inch version priced at $399.99.
Additionally, Samsung is going to be bundling $100 worth of free software and extras in the Chromebook 2. Which we just heard that they are bundling over $500 in extras for the new Galaxy S5. We don’t have any clue as to what this free software and extras will comprise of, but it’ll probably be some extra Google Drive space, maybe some GoGo InFlight internet service and some Google Play credit. Of course, we won’t complain about any of that since it is free. But I’d love to get some extra Google Drive storage, how about the rest of you?
Right now, the rumor mill is telling us that Samsung is planning to release both models in April. So we’re about a month away from these hitting retailers like Amazon, and Best Buy. As always, we’ll be sure to let you know when we know more details about the launch of the Samsung Chromebook 2. I’m definitely interested in the 13.3-inch version, even though I wish it had an Intel chip instead of an Exynos one.
