Android 4.4 KitKat has been out for some time now, but as we all know it takes a lot of devices a lot longer to get their update. This is understandable after all, Samsung doesn’t get access to the code any earlier than anyone else, and of course they have TouchWiz to deal with too, which no doubt makes things take that little bit longer. Those across the pond in the UK are getting a choclatey treat this week, with the roll out of Android 4.4.2 KitKat to their Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 models. We’ve covered the update a few times before, but it’s nice to know that it’s heading to our British friends.
The update for Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 devices is heading to those with the BTU region code and the OTA update should be coming in around the 400MB mark, which is the usual for these sort of devices. The changes are pretty minimal from Android 4.3 but, the KitKat styling has reached the status bar up top, bringing a little bit of white and transparency to these two Samsung devices. As well as that, there’s a camera shortcut on the lockscreen, and of course the usual raft of under-the-hood improvements to be had as well. Not the most exciting update for Samsung users we’re sure, but definitely one worth getting a little excited about.
We’re pretty sure that the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 will also be updated at some point with the similar style of TouchWiz found on the Galaxy S5, but considering it doesn’t launch until April, it’s a little early to start predicting just when that’ll happen. No matter what though, our friends across the pond should be happy to get Android 4.4.2 and hopefully things have been rolling out nice and smoothly. If you’ve received the update, let us know in the comments and over on Google+ how things went and how it’s treating you so far!
