How it Works: After a quick download from the Play Store, you can start playing.
You can either gear up and change things about your character or head straight down the hills. I suggest geting familiar with the controls first, which is easy to do as the game goes through them nicely.
The tilt controls are actually quite gentle, and they’re easy to get used to, unlike other similar games. On your first couple of runs, you’ll note how good the game looks, and how good-looking animations are. The trick wheel can be a little tough to get used to, but then again pulling these off isn’t supposed to be easy, is it? Your first few runs down the hills won’t be all that easy, but once you get the hang of it, things become much more fun.
At the end of each level, you’r given a score our of three stars and such. These stars are used to unlock new items in the store, which will change up how you play. Don’t worry if you didn’t do all that well the first time down the hill, with a new bike and some more gear you can go back and smash your previous score.
These sort of games have been on Android for quite some time now, but what makes Bike Mayhem different is not only the vast array of levels, but also the massive variety of customization options.
Thanks to the realistic physics, just like it was in Moto X Mayhem, crashing is just as much fun as landing that huge trick.
Opinion: Bike Mayhem is an arcade style game that will have people playing for hours. It seems like a game many of us have played before, but look a little closer and the subtleties really start to show. For instance, the level of customization here is pretty fantastic and there’s something to be said of the game’s brilliant graphics. Add-in a more modern approach to add-ons and such, and you have a game that’s quite possibly the best of its kind on Android. Moto X Mayhem reminded me of pretty much every other bike-based physics game, but Bike Mayhem reminds me more of the excellent Trials game of Xbox Live fame, which says a lot about the level of polish overall.
Ratings
- Speed (4/5) – A game that runs great on a number of devices, with fluid animations and high frame rates, Bike Mayhem is a fast-paced game.
- Features (5/5) – Bike Mayhem has a whole bunch of levels on offer, a raft of customization options and more to make it one hell of a game, packed to the rafters.
- Theme (5/5) – With smooth animation throughout, subtle touches like dust trails and more, this is a great-looking game, despite the fact it’s a mostly 2D affair.
- Overall (5/5) – Easy to pickup yet tough to master, Bike Mayhem is an excellent game that anyone with an interest in bikes or these types of games needs to try it.
Pros
- Control system is complex enough, but it’s not difficult to learn, making it easy to get started with.
- Lots of different courses in different terrain.
- You can customize the look of your rider, as well as change parts of your bike to adjust the performance of the crash resistance, top speed, trick agility and acceleration.
- Crashes are even more entertaining than they were in Moto X Mayhem. You can pick up the rider with your finger and throw him around too, which is pretty entertaining
Cons
- Trick wheel can be a little difficult to master, as it’s less of a wheel and more of eight buttons to tap to perform a trick. However, once you get used to this it’s not that tricky at all.
- Takes quite a bit of practice to thoroughly get to grips with the controls and own the downhill tracks.
Conclusion: Bike Mayhem presents what I feel could well be the pinnacle of this sort of genre on mobile devices. For a long time now, Moto X Mayhem was the game to beat, but this blows it out of the water. Just what we should expect from Moto X’s creators. It’s got oodles of options to change your look, the performance of the bike and more. Never mind all that though, the game is just good, honest fun and there’s little to get in your way of ruining that. Sure, there are in-app purchases if you want to buy more stuff, but you can just as happily keep on playing without touching any of them. Which is how it should be in our eyes. A great game that anyone should give a go.
