We said on the Android Headlines Show before CES that this is the year of wearables, and so far it really has been. As there’s not much more they can do with smartphones, we’re now seeing companies push into wearables like smartwatches, fitness trackers and more. At CES we saw a ton of them. Some of the more notables were the Razer Nabu, Sony’s smartband, and LG’s Lifeband. I’m actually looking forward to the LG Lifeband, but on the other hand, I’m actually looking forward to all three. Why? Simply because I’m curious. I never really got into the whole “smartwatch craze”. I did use the Galaxy Gear, when I was reviewing the Galaxy Note 3, and I didn’t have much of a use-case for it. I had to force myself to use it. Which is why I haven’t picked up the Pebble, or the Sony Smartwatch 2 or any other smartwatch. But now the fitness trackers like the Fitbit Flex, that’s a whole other story.
Of course LG, Sony and Razer aren’t the only ones with wearables. Samsung announced three of them at Mobile World Congress this past month. The Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit. I was actually really looking forward to the Gear Fit, because it looks amazing. However, once again Samsung has locked it down to their own ecosystem. So unless you have a Samsung smartphone already, you’re looking at a pretty hefty price tag for one of their new wearables. But remember, Samsung has more than half of the Android market share, so it’s not going to hurt them at all to only offer these wearables to their customers.
So we’ve got the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, Gear Fit, Lifeband, Smartband, and Nabu so far announced in 2014. Which one are you the most excited for, and why? We’re always anxious to know what our readers think, so be sure to leave us a comment down below.
