UK Residents Will Be Able To Purchase The Chromecast Tomorrow

For some of us, March is a month of waiting. Some of us had been waiting for last nights shindigs to commence, others are awaiting March 25th for the new phone announcements from HTC and others. For our friends over in the UK though like our own resident England native Tom Dawson, the waiting begun with Google’s beloved HDMI streaming dongle and the chance to purchase at home turf. Starting tomorrow, the waiting ends as those who live in the UK will be able to purchase the Chromecast physically from stores throughout the region. The dongle is already appearing on local websites like PC World and Currys, and it will most likely show up at a handful of brick and mortar retailers in the region as well.

What’s unknown at this point is whether Google has plans to make the Chromecast available directly through the Play Store UK or not, even if they don’t though it shouldn’t be a problem for anyone. Plenty of people here in the US have already been enjoying the great benefits of the Chromecast for some time now, myself included, and we’re pretty sure that those who have been waiting to pick one up after they weren’t required to import it will be happy once they can plug it in. There are plenty of official Chromecast supported apps in the Play Store’s Chromecast section, but a handy little app published yesterday to the Play Store can also help you find those apps that have Chromecast support that aren’t part of those advertised by Google themselves.

Apps like Pandora, Plex, HBOGO, Netflix, Hulu Plus and others are among the most popular uses for the streaming dongle, so make sure you carve out a nice chunk of time to sit down and watch some streaming videos if you’re looking to grab one. Once the Chromecast goes live for purchase at these specific sites, it will cost you a cool £30 to snag one and take it home. $30 is about the cost we’ve been seeing plenty of places here in the states, although the original cost was $35. For US residents, if you still haven’t picked one up you can grab them from Amazon. For the UK residents, if you’re picking one of these up tomorrow or sometime soon after they are made available, what are you looking forward to most?
