Historically speaking, any new flagship device generates its own level of buzz in the marketplace before its official unveiling. We have seen it happen time and again across OEMs and with countless devices. However given the frequency of leaks pertaining to HTC’s upcoming flagship device we can definitely don the hat of a conspiracy theorist. It seems that all the leaks we have seen so far have not been pure leaks (they don’t seem to be too off the mark), but appear to be some sort of twisted marketing strategy from HTC – however, there are definite drawbacks as well. Leak everything out before the official announcement and then there is nothing left to look forward to – a sad fate recently suffered by Sony’s Xperia Z1 handset.
In this trend, we have now come face to face with ‘leaked’ images of the All New HTC One (M8) with Verizon’s mark branded across the device. The images show the Big Red logo splashed on the lower back panel, whereas the HTC logo is branded on the lower front housing below the screen – the same position it occupies on HTC’s last years’ flagship – the HTC One (M7). The leaked images do not reveal any new spoilers, with the dual camera being outed already in earlier leaks.
In terms of specs, the All New HTC One (M8) sports a 5 inch Super LCD3 display which offers a 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution (approximating to 441 ppi pixel density), a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB internal storage which is expandable to 128 GB with the built-in MicroSD slot. The unique aspect of the device is the presence of dual 5 Ultra Pixel cameras on the back and a 2.1 MP secondary video call camera. The actual functionality of the dual primary cameras is somewhat of a mystery yet. The device boasts of the full range of 2G, 3G and LTE connectivity and other bells as whistles as expected of a flagship device are also present. Despite the stellar specifications, real world perception of the device will depend very much on how it fares against its older sibling – the HTC One (M7), which was an iconic device in its own right.
