We all know that Xiaomi has become one of the biggest smartphone manufacturers in China, but to continually sell out devices at these sort of rates is impressive no matter how big you are. There recently announced RedMi Note, a 5.5-inch budget-minded device took just 34 minutes to sell out. Of course, there were only 100,000 units available at launch, but just over half an hour to sell that many units? I would consider that a win if I were running things over there. Besides, a good start is a good start, even if it didn’t sell quite as fast as other recent products.
If you’re unfamiliar with the RedMi Note, it’s a 5.5-inch device that’s powered by an Octa-Core MediaTek CPU and features a 720p display. It’s running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with MIUI v5 on top of it, which isn’t the latest version of Android, but at this price point it’s still a very affordable deal. There are two versions available, one with 1GB of RAM and another with 2GB of RAM, with local pricing starting at 799 Yuan. There’s no telling just when the device will be back in stock, but we’re pretty sure that Xiaomi will want to keep the flow of these coming, as they appear to be a hot ticket.
Larger devices have become commonplace here in West, but they’re immensely popular in Asia, and so it’s little wonder that the RedMi note has sold out so quickly. More than just a cheap Android device, the octa-core CPU should keep things chugging along nicely and while it’s not running the latest version of Android, MIUI adds a lot of value that most consumers would be happy to get their hands on. Definitely a company to watch, Xiaomi keep on showing they have what it takes to make it into the big leagues.
