Earlier today it looked as though Google was getting prepared to begin offering the Nest Learning Thermostat in Google Play soon, as the Nest unit was spotted hiding on their Google Play support pages. The unit wasn’t in the list for long before it seemed to have been pulled. Where the Nest thermostat once sat at the bottom of the list is now the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play edition device. Previously, if you were to have gone to the Google Play support pages and navigated to “country availability” section under the help for devices list, you’d have seen the Nest sitting there comfortably with other Google products. It’s no surprise that it was pulled as fast as it was. Someone at Google probably got wind that it was noticed by someone and that it quickly made headlines, prompting the removal as they probably aren’t ready to announce that will become a device you can buy through Google Play in the future.
When the device was still listed, since it was found under the country availability section of the help for devices category, it was listed as being a device that could be purchased in the U.S., UK, and Canada. That may very well be the first few regions where Google plans to sell the device. Although there so far hasn’t been any confirmation from Google on the matter and they tend to like to announce these things at the appropriate times, seeing it on the list of available regions to buy through the Google play support site is a pretty good indicator we’ll likely see it up in the devices section of the Play Store sometime in the near future.
Right now there is no telling when and if exactly Google might be planning to start selling the Nest Learning Thermostat through Google play, but once it’s there you can be sure we’ll update you with the availability. As for now you can still buy the Nest Learning Thermostat from Amazon as well as other retailers, and Nest’s own website at the retail price of $249.99. Do any of you already own a Net Learning Thermostat?
