HTC Nexus 8 Set for Release in Q3

There have been some pretty heavy rumors this year that HTC has been chosen to make the Nexus 8. Now we aren’t sure if this means we’ll see a Nexus 7 and a Nexus 8, or if we are just moving up to a Nexus 8. Both are pretty plausible so we’ll have to wait and see. HTC is supposedly making the Nexus 8 or the Nexus 10, we’ve seen rumors about both devices. But with the Nexus 10 not getting a refresh last fall, it’s not looking good for another Nexus 10 tablet, unfortunately.

According to Digitimes, who is citing anonymous sources, it appears that Google is looking to launch this tablet in Q3. Which sounds about right, let me explain. Google I/O is June 25-26. And Q2 ends on June 30th. Which means we could see the Nexus 8 announced at Google I/O and then released about a week later. Digitimes also reports that Google is moving to a 8-inch tablet and having HTC build it instead of ASUS. Which many of us have been asking for HTC to build another Nexus as many of us love their build, but would love to see stock Android on their devices, hence a Nexus.

Additionally Digitimes reported that HTC was asked by Google to make earlier models of the Nexus 7, which the company declined to focus on their smartphone business, which is still struggling. It’s looking like we’ll see Android 4.5 on the Nexus 8 come this summer, and it may even still be named KitKat. But we’ll have to wait a few more months until we know. As we haven’t even seen the builds leak out for Android 4.5 just yet. But trust me, those leaks are coming, as they always do.

I know I’m one of those that really wants a HTC Nexus device, and will more than likely grab the HTC Nexus 8 on launch day, as long as it’s a great device. Which I’m pretty sure it will be. How many of you are going to grab a HTC Nexus 8? Let us know in the comments below.
