This week, Koushik Dutta, better known as Koush, sat down with Michael Crider over at Android Police and talked about all sorts of things. The big topics were Koush leaving Cyanogen inc., last month and back to Clockworkmod. Koush has developed a few apps that we all use. The most common is probably ROM Manager, especially back in the day. He’s also responsible for ClockworkMod recovery, which if you were an early user of Android and rooted your phone, you’ve probably used it. Additionally he’s made Helium for backups and Allcast for streaming content to Chromecast, Xbox, Roku, and many other devices.
Android Police asked Koush what kind of development he did for Cyanogen Inc., during his time there:
“Day to day development work was actually not a large part of my activities at Cyanogen, actually. I certainly missed that aspect. I was responsible for recruiting, product and project management, technical guidance, strategy, et cetera. When I did have time to code, I’d primarily help out on GalleryNext and CM Installer (recovery/device bits). Voice+ was built by me, and that is complete. I also did the initial prototype of PushSMS (succeeded by WhisperPush). All those projects have been actively developed by engineers other than myself.”
They also asked, if Koush had any other projects he was working on in the immediate future, following his departure from Cyanogen Inc.,:
“AllCast and Mirror for the immediate term. I have to start on a ROM Manager rewrite, which is long overdue. I also want to explore some ideas I’ve had around icon packs and widgets, and making the experience around them better.”
