The LG G Flex, the first curved display smartphone to make it’s way into the US is getting an update to KitKat today. At least the Sprint variant is. The LG G Flex became available earlier this year on Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile. We reviewed the T-Mobile variant earlier this year and really liked it. Although we weren’t a huge fan of the curved display, we did like the self healing back and the changes LG had made to their skin from the G2 to the G Flex. Not to mention the battery life, we were blown away by the battery life. We’ll just say that we got 7-8 hours on-screen time with the LG G Flex consistently. Although that 720p display definitely helped out.
Beginning today, Sprint is beginning to roll out the Android 4.4.2 – KitKat update to the LG G Flex. The update includes immersive mode, Cloud Printing and a few other features that Google tossed into the Android 4.4 update. Sprint isn’t all that specific in the changelog, they only mention the update to Android 4.4 as the only change. Which we are sure there are some other improvements in there somewhere as there always are in OTA’s like this. Since it already supported Sprint Spark, we won’t be seeing an update for that.
The update is available beginning today on Sprint and should be available now. If you head into your settings than tap on About Phone or device, and then System Updates you should be able to check for an update and attempt to pull down that update. If you are unsuccessful, I’d say wait a bit and see if you can grab it later on today. As I’m sure their servers are going to get hit – not like the G Flex was their best seller, but I’m sure they sold a good number of them.
